While walking around at a home show one day, Kevin Huhn overheard the host of a popular woodworking show giving a presentation. He stopped dead in his tracks. At that exact moment, he had a vision. He saw The Hockey Source show in his head as clear as if he had seen it on television. Kevin was inspired. He went home to do a mind-mapping exercise. That was May 7, 2002. Kevin wrote out his idea for a show that would cover everything there was to know concerning the game of hockey. He initially called it, The Hockey Show - It's A 'N' Ice Game.
He gathered information, watched other educational shows and talked to executives and producers of popular networks. He wanted to understand what made a successful show and what types of format worked. He even took a course on TV production. Whenever he pitched his idea to people, it was always received with great interest. This positive feedback encouraged him to go ahead and develop a plan for The Hockey Source.
It was not until April 2003 that Kevin sat down and really wrote out some possible material for the show. After consulting with a group of mentors, he hired a lawyer to protect his interests and proceeded with the creation of a pilot. He hired a company to design the show logo as well as to create a show character . Before the year was up, he had trademarked both. He also hired a marketing expert to guide him in creating a niche. He pointed out that the subject of hockey was so vast that trying to appeal to everyone about everything would not be a focused strategy. At that moment, Kevin understood that he was to become " The Minor Hockey Expert ." From that point on, his strategy became more precise. He revised the show content to make it specific to minor hockey.
Since the summer of 2002 and throughout all these events, Kevin was also busy researching and writing his book, Hockey-ology - The Ultimate Guide to Fun and Success in Minor Hockey.
