USA Hockey Forms Agreement with The Hockey Source
Markham, Ontario – December 23, 2006 - USA Hockey announced late last week that it has formed a licensing agreement with The Hockey Source, the creator of the Team Management Training Program designed to assist team managers in youth hockey. The program provides tools to develop team and individual goals and maintain clear team communication while also providing the latest team management strategies. The program may be purchased through The Hockey Source’s official web site at www.thehockeysource.tv.
“USA Hockey is excited to have The Hockey Source as a licensing partner” said Mike Bertsch, senior director of corporate affairs and fundraising for USA Hockey.“ Our new relationship will make it easier to provide team managers with an efficient and significant tool that will enhance their knowledge and create a more enjoyable overall experience.”
The Hockey Source’s Team Management Training Program focuses on the four pillars necessary for effective team management: communication, budgeting, fundraising and travel planning. The program includes a four-hour training class and course guide as well as the Team Management System® which is a customized, ready-to-use reference manual and CD. Also included in the program is a one-hour call with a team-management expert of The Hockey Source and unlimited e-mail support over the season.
“The winners in this agreement are the people who are involved in youth hockey, such as coaches, parents, players, managers, trainers and volunteers,” said Kevin V. The Shocking Truth About Managing A Sports Team in this country!
Markham, Ontario – March 7, 2006 - In hockey, every year roughly 25,000 people take on the role of Team Manager to help out over 500,000 players. They volunteer because their son or daughter is usually on the team and decide to provide support to the coaching staff. Unlike coaches, officials and trainers, people in the team manager position have no training courses to take, no resources to go to or written collateral to rely on. They are left to fend for themselves. To help people understand how to deal with the overwhelming administrative responsibilities, The Hockey Source has created the first Team Manager’s Training Program that will be available for the 2006-2007 season.
On average, for every 1 hour of practicing in the rink, 2 hours are spent sitting behind a desk or at a kitchen table focusing on seemingly endless paperwork; preparing and conducting meetings; organizing travel to tournaments and, of course, the inevitable and vital financial management of a team.
As one season comes to an end and a new one is in the horizon, this is the critical time to begin preparation. “There is nothing for team managers and now is the time to implement something for them” states former Manager of Coaching from Hockey Canada, Jamie McDonald.
The program simplifies tasks, shows people how to create clear communication channels, teaches fundraising strategies and saves people time. The program includes: a 4-hour training session with a course conductor, a proven step-by-step guide called the Team Management System® (TMS) , a 1-hour support telephone call with an expert from The Hockey Source and unlimited email support, giving the person in the role, a support structure that aligns with the coach, trainer and even parents.
And because no two teams are exactly alike, The Hockey Source customizes each guide (TMS) to fit every team’s individual needs allowing them to better plan, manage, and execute a great off the ice game plan.
The program is being currently being evaluated by Hockey Canada as a national offering to their members. In addition, Hockey Manitoba, Hockey Nova Scotia, Hockey Alberta, Hockey New Brunswick, North Western Ontario Hockey, OMHA and ODHA are in discussion with The Hockey Source for implementation of it for the 2006-2007 season.
For more information about the Team Manager Training Program, contact The Hockey Source by e-mail at info@thehockeysource.tv or by phone at (905) 887 8204.

A sports fan’s passion brings success in publishing, TV and business
December 7, 2005 – Markham, ON – What seems an overnight success actually took Kevin V. Huhn two frenetic years to achieve. The story of this Canadian, who has become author, broadcaster, manufacturer, and philanthropist, illustrates how passion and commitment can result in one ordinary person achieving the extraordinary.
Recognizing all Kevin has accomplished for minor/youth hockey in just a couple of years, Andrew Hill, former president of CBS Television Productions said: “You’ve overcome incredible odds to achieve your dream. Your tenacity, patience, and faith in your project have been incredible.” Besides working full-time at a Fortune 500 company; being a husband and father in Toronto; and visiting his 2 children in Montreal every second weekend, Kevin created a multi-faceted organization to improve minor hockey.
His love of the game began more than 30 years ago, as a young player in Montreal, Quebec. His commitment grew as he took on the roles of coach, manager, scout, and parent. Over the years, the biggest challenge he experienced was getting quality information about the game that he and many others required.
Kevin’s goal – to better the people by bettering the game – led him to publish a comprehensive reference book, Hockey-ology; design an interactive website; and create both a television series, The Hockey Source, and a product line to help solve the sport’s problems.
He founded his organization, The Hockey Source - The Ultimate Resource for Minor Hockey, by assembling a team of experts in various aspects of the sport, including: Peter Friesen, Head Trainer of Carolina Hurricanes; Dr. Wayne Halliwell, Sports Psychologist for Hockey Canada; Francois Allaire, world renowned goalie consultant; and Gord Kirke, sports attorney. They all believed that the timing of Kevin’s initiative was right to help the game all over the world.
Kevin believes that people need more than quality information about hockey to participate fully in the sport. “The high cost is depriving some children of the opportunity to play the greatest game on earth,” he says. Therefore, he has set a goal of donating $750,000 to teams and individuals through the sale of his book and The Hockey Source products, which are available through his website, at www.thehockeysource.tv.
The Hockey Source television program airs in Canada (Tuesdays at 6:30 p.m., Eastern time) on the NHL Network, owned by Bell Globemedia, Insight Sports, and the NHL. In the U.S., it’s on FOX Sports Net (FSN) in New England (Sundays at 2:00 p.m.), and FSN Pittsburgh starting in December.

The Hockey Source has the edge with The Hockey Company to help minor hockey
Markham, Ontario, November 11, 2005 -- Kevin V. Huhn, creator of The Hockey Source - The Ultimate Resource for Minor Hockey (THS), is pleased to have The Hockey Company as a corporate sponsor for this first season of The Hockey Source television show, airing Tuesdays at 6:30 p.m. (ET) on the NHL Network and Sundays at 2:00 p.m. (ET) on FOX Sports Net New England.
"The Hockey Company is a great addition to our team,” says Kevin Huhn. “Through us they will share the importance of correct sizing, proper care and maintenance of hockey skates and other important hockey apparel for all involved”. Yan Martin, Director of Marketing for The Hockey Company, said: "It was a perfect fit for us, because we want to make sure that we help the young players and officials as well as the mature professional”.
The Hockey Company will assist The Hockey Source by sharing the step by step process of how skates are made and provide facts to assist people when purchasing. Because most retailers only promote products that best serve their bottom line, Kevin is looking forward to sharing this key information to make life easier for people in hockey. The information will appear on The Hockey Source TV show and be available on-line at www.thehockeysource.tv.
The Hockey Company is a subsidiary of Reebok and manufactures brands such as CCM®, KOHO and JOFA. Today, CCM® remains a leader in skate innovation and technological development headquartered in Montreal, Quebec.

“[I’m] looking forward to contributing to The Hockey Source and demystifying the use of mental training in hockey,” said Dr. Halliwell, who holds a Masters degree from McGill University and a Ph.D. from Florida State University.
“This is one topic in hockey that we do not spend enough time on,” stated Kevin Huhn, “making hockey fun requires a certain kind of attitude, which all starts in the mind.”
During the past twenty five years of teaching sport psychology and conducting research, Wayne has written three books, presented at a number of international conferences and attended many Olympic Games and World Championships as a consultant to Canada’s National Teams. New hockey initiatives to improve the game for all
Markham, Ontario – April 12, 2005 – Responding to the overwhelming demand for reliable information about minor (youth) hockey, The Hockey Source recently launched new initiatives to serve as an unbiased and practical resource for the sport: a television show, a website, an educational book and merchandise designed to solve the problems of the game.
“I want to better the game by bettering the people,” declares Kevin V. Huhn, creator of The Hockey Source. For 30 years, he has been active in minor hockey as coach, mentor, instructor, scout, parent, family advisor and player.
More than 5 million people are involved in minor (youth) hockey in North America: hockey players, coaches, managers, officials, trainers and administrators. The Hockey Source seeks to fill a void by providing valuable information to help participants of minor hockey to make sound decisions and most of all, to have fun.
The Hockey Source television show is expected to begin airing mid-2005. The website, www.thehockeysource.tv, is interactive. Both the show and website provide innovative and comprehensive resources for everyone involved in the game: information, expert advice, “how-to” instruction and entertainment.
Kevin’s new book, Hockey-ology—The Ultimate Guide to Fun & Success for Minor Hockey was published in December 2004. He states: “Love of the game is at the heart of the business,” and aims to prove his point by donating 25% of the book proceeds to minor hockey teams, leagues and associations.
Gordon Kirke, Toronto sports and entertainment lawyer, believes The Hockey Source is “a great resource for information, fun, entertainment and education for all of us interested or involved in hockey, including fans, players, parents, executives and scouts.”
The Hockey Source is a production of Fire ‘n Idea Inc., a privately-owned Canadian corporation. It also offers 2 lines of merchandise: Rink Mates, designed to help solve the game’s problems and Signature Series, hockey-inspired apparel.
NHL season cancellation - a Minor Hockey matter
Mark ham , Ontario – February 16, 2005 – One of the first to respond to the announcement today that the National Hockey League season has been cancelled was Kevin V. Huhn, an authority on minor hockey. He said, “This development poses no risk at all to the game, because NHL is just one option for hockey fans. So many more people are involved at other levels–especially minor and youth hockey, which involve more than 5 million North Americans.”
Evidence of Huhn’s commitment to the sport’s advancement is his creation of The Hockey Source–The Ultimate Resource for Minor Hockey . This new venture provides innovative and comprehensive resources for minor and youth hockey, including an interactive website: www.thehockeysource.tv. Both the website and The Hockey Source television show (expected to begin airing in 2005) provide expert advice, “how to” instruction, and entertainment for everyone, no matter what their role in the game.
As author of Hockey-ology—The Ultimate Guide to Fun & Success for Minor Hockey, Huhn contributes financially to the sport, donating 25% of the book proceeds to minor hockey teams, leagues, and associations. Huhn’s efforts also include a program called the Team Management System (TMS). Considered “the ultimate communication and planning tool,” this simple step-by-step guide for coaches and managers provides assistance with strategic planning and fundraising strategies. It’s tailored to the individual team’s needs, and includes a free consultation with one of The Hockey Source specialists.

Canada’s global leadership opportunities now through youth hockey
Markham, Ontario – January 10, 2005 – “Canadians are finding plenty of hockey excitement elsewhere, in the absence of National Hockey League games; our gold medal win on January 4th, 2005 at the World Junior Hockey tournament further extends our winning streak in the sport, which gives Canada a unique opportunity,” says Kevin V. Huhn, author, broadcaster, former coach, and creator of The Hockey Source, a new venture providing innovative and comprehensive resources for minor hockey, including fundraising support.
Explaining Canada’s special role, he says: “At the same time as we face stiff competition from countries such as the U.S., Sweden, and the Czech Republic, our leadership allows us to promote our expertise and develop friendship and co-operation worldwide. Using the example of global corporations that have shared best practices in their fields through setting up operations abroad, we can further strengthen not only the growth of the sport worldwide, but also our nation’s economy.
“Millions of individuals around the world are involved in youth hockey; however, just a few go on to the professional level. For all the rest, the game provides fun and fitness, but it also can be the key to achieving success in every other aspect of life – from personal relationships to community involvement and career. Whether a game is won or lost, it offers the potential to teach many essential life lessons.
“I want to better the game - wherever it’s played - by bettering the people. My goal is to help participants and fans of youth hockey make sound decisions, and most of all, to have fun,” declares Huhn. Having been active in minor hockey for 30 years, he’s sharing his vision, knowledge, and experience through:
1. Hockey-ology—The Ultimate Guide to Fun & Success for Minor Hockey, his new book. Minor and youth hockey teams will benefit from his donation of 25% of book proceeds;
2. www.thehockeysource.tv, a new interactive website;
3. The Hockey Source television show, expected to begin airing in 2005;
4. A respected team of hockey experts assembled by Huhn to advise people who use his step-by-step guide to start and/or operate a team;
5. Rink Mates, a line of products designed to help solve the game’s problems, as well as to serveas fundraisers that are more appropriate and effective than others commonly used.

New book puts fun back into minor hockey
Markham, Ontario – November 16, 2004 – Hockey-ology: The Ultimate Guide to Fun & Success for Minor Hockey, a book published in November 2004, offers help to ease the overwhelming financial demands and other burdens of operating a minor hockey team.
Author Kevin V. Huhn has 30 years of experience as a Hockey Canada coach, a certified mentor, instructor, scout, parent, family advisor and a former player in minor hockey. As executive producer of The Hockey Source television show and website, he states: “love of the game is at the heart of the business.” Minor and youth hockey teams will benefit from his donation of 25% of book proceeds. His concern about the rising costs of minor hockey spurred him to develop an effective multi-faceted fundraising system that provides a more rewarding alternative to selling merchandise that is less supportive of the game or even unhealthy.
Jamie McDonald, former scout for the New York Rangers, calls the book “a must-read.” It addresses topics not talked about by governing bodies such as Hockey Canada and U.S.A. Hockey, such as managing, selecting an agent and mental conditioning. Until now, there has not been a single book covering all subjects and tasks in coaching, playing, managing, scouting, parenting, training and officiating.
The book offers insightful tips, step-by-step procedures and secrets of success in all of the various roles, from fans to those more involved in the game. It outlines the steps for effective communication and proper skill development that also would be applicable to athletes and coaches in other sports.
At $19.95, Hockey-ology: The Ultimate Guide to Fun & Success for Minor Hockey can be purchased through The Hockey Source Website: www.thehockeysource.tv.

Markham, Ontario – September 16, 2004 - In preparation to help minor hockey around the world, The Hockey Source alongside contest sponsors The Hockey News and Mullins Sports are inviting children, teenagers and adults to design an original jersey that will be worn by the players from different communities who will appear on the weekly TV show, “The Hockey Source”.
Based on the vision of The Hockey Source’s executive producer, Kevin Huhn, to provide valuable information about minor hockey to people, “it was only fitting to allow those in minor hockey to help us create the look for our ‘On-Ice’ segment”, says Kevin. “Having The Hockey News sponsor this contest allows us to fulfill our purpose to better the game by bettering the people”, adds Kevin. “The Hockey News is an icon in hockey when it comes to providing information about the game.”
One winner will be chosen from all submissions. Apart from the thrill of seeing players appear on the TV show wearing his or her design, the winner will also receive a framed copy of the winning custom-made jersey, and a gift package from The Hockey News, which will include a 1-year subscription to The Hockey News magazine. Parent gets roped into managing hockey team but gets untangled with TMS
Markham, Ontario – September 2, 2004 - To help streamline hockey management’s overwhelming administrative responsibilities, The Hockey Source has created its unique Team Management System (TMS).
Minor hockey coaches and managers do not coach and manage for the love of the paperwork. It is the love of the game that keeps these dedicated volunteers going. On average, for every 1 hour of practicing in the rink, 2 hours are spent sitting behind a desk or at a kitchen table focusing on seemingly endless paperwork, meetings; and, of course, the inevitable and vital fundraising.
The reality for most minor hockey teams is that if there is no fundraising, there are enormous cheques to be written by parents, and certainly no extras like new equipment or trips, unless parents pay. TMS is also designed to teach coaches, managers and volunteers about strategic planning and maximizing fundraising efforts.
“The better communication made my life a lot less stressful,” states Anna Lupo, a hockey mom that lived a season of the Team Management System. “And due to the better fundraising efforts, at the end of our season we saw 30% of the registration fees go back to the parents.”
By simplifying everyone’s role, creating clear communication channels, and saving time, everyone involved can focus on what’s really important, the game. The purpose of The Hockey Source is to better the game by bettering the people.
“Outside of my regular full-time day job, it was another 30-hour a week job for me to administer a team. The coach and I were responsible for everything from the budget to the travel itinerary,” states The Hockey Source spokesperson, Jack Ray. “In minor hockey today many people are roped into doing some of these tasks, but because they have no idea where to begin, they quickly become overwhelmed. The purpose of TMS is to give team managers a step by step advantage while putting back the fun.”
And because no two teams are exactly alike, The Hockey Source will provide a free consultation with one of its specialists for those that decide to purchase and use TMS. The program is tailored to fit every team’s individual needs allowing them to better plan, manage, and execute a great off the ice game plan.

The Hockey Source Website is the First Step to Bettering the Game
Markham, Ontario – August 6, 2004 – In response to the overwhelming demand for reliable information about minor hockey (also known as youth hockey), The Hockey Source recently launched its Web site (http://www.thehockeysource.tv). The Hockey Source interactive Web site provides education, expert advice, ‘how-to’ instruction, entertainment and a roster of valuable resources for not only those who play, but all people involved in minor hockey. The site focuses on providing reliable, unbiased, and realistic information in conjunction with the upcoming television show scheduled to begin airing in October of this year.
“The reason why I am a part of the Hockey Source is the chance to assist people who are interested in hockey regardless of their affiliation,” states Master instructor and mentor for Hockey Canada, Peter Jones. “I can talk about hockey with dedicated people from anywhere in the world. There is no agenda, just the advancement of the game.”
With approximately 4.5 million hockey players, coaches, managers, officials, trainers, administrators and volunteers registered with Hockey Canada and approximately 700,000 registered with USA Hockey, the need for minor hockey information is evident. The Hockey Source seeks to fill this void by providing people of all ages and levels of interest valuable information that will help them make sound decisions and, most of all, have more fun!
“I want to better the game by bettering the people,” states Executive Producer and creator of The Hockey Source, Kevin Huhn. As a coach, mentor, instructor, scout, family advisor, and former player in minor hockey, Kevin put his thirty years of knowledge and experience into his book, Hockey-ology - The Ultimate Guide to Fun & Success in Minor Hockey expected to be released in September of this year. And because the love of the game is at the heart of the business, 25% of book proceeds are being donated to minor hockey teams, leagues and associations.
In addition to the book, The Hockey Source offers two lines of products: Rink Mates, which is designed to help solve problems around the game of hockey; and Signature Series, which provides hockey-inspired apparel.
The Hockey Source is a production of Fire ‘n Idea Inc. which a privately owned Canadian corporation.
