SET UP

2 players - X1 and X2 are set-up at the top of the face-off circles with a bunch of pucks. One (G) goalie is at the top of the crease in the crouch ready position to take a shot from X1.

DRILL STEPS

X1 starts the drill by putting a soft lob near the net (area A) so the puck touches the boards and stops. G comes out to play the puck once it crosses the goal line. G passes the puck to X1 and then races back to the net to make a save from the shot. X1 stops the puck and shoots on net. X1 lobs a second puck a little bit farther away from the net. G comes out to play the puck after it goes across the goal line; passes the puck back to X1 and goes back in the net ready for the shot. The process is repeated for a 3 rd puck.

Once 3 pucks from 1 side are done the Goalie changes sides and repeats the process.

KEY TEACHING POINTS

Goalies work on playing the puck, recovering and getting back into position in the net quickly to make a save. The drill forces the goalie to skate to a loose puck and skate back to the crease quickly and then to be ready for a shot on goal.
