SET UP
Pucks are put behind the net. 2 D participate in the drill at the same time along with a G in the net.
D1 starts off to either side of the net above the goal line and D2 stands in the high slot above the hash marks of the circles.
DRILL STEPS
D1 starts the drill by skating backwards towards the back of the net and picks up a puck. D1 pivots, picks up a puck and skates forwards carrying the puck to the other side of the net. As D1 passes the goal line beside the other side of the net, he passes the puck to D2. D2 shoots immediately on net. D1 then repeats the pattern - skates backwards behind the net, pivots, picks up a puck and goes to the other side and makes a pass. D2 skates full speed to the blue line and back in for another shot. The drill continues back and forth with passes from either side of the net.
KEY TEACHING POINTS
Players (D1) need to keep facing the shooter in the slot and move their feet quickly forwards and backwards. (D2) need to be ready to shoot as soon as the puck arrives.
Goalies need to be in position for the shot from the slot and move from side to side.
