SET UP

G starts in the crease standing up in the crouch position.  Coach stands 3-5 feet away.  Pucks are placed around the crease in a semi circle.

DRILL STEPS

G in his crouch poke checks the puck with a simple push of the arm keeping the stick in hand.  Coach controls the puck and shoots on G.  G goes behind each puck in his stance and poke checks the puck and then reacts to the shot from C.

PROGRESSION
For the 2nd time of poke checks place the pucks a foot or so further out.  G slides his hand all the way up the shaft of the stick and then poke checks.  C receives the puck and then shoots.

KEY TEACHING POINTS

Goalies need to work on keeping the stick on the ice for the poke check and a potential shot from the coach.
