SET UP
Defensemen are at center ice. Forwards are just below the bluelines along the boards. F1 starts the drill. A bunch of pucks are with both groups of Forwards. A second Defensemen is ready to go on the other side of center ice.
DRILL STEPS
F1 starts the drill by skating with a puck through the neutral zone. He takes a long shot from the blueline in stride. At the same time D1 skates backwards towards his goalie and stops in the high slot, then skates forwards to the red line as fast as possible to create a tight gap for the on coming 2 on 1.
After F1 shoots he continues to skate to F2. F2 passes the puck to F1 and then the two Forwards go 2 on 1 against D1. Drill continues with F3 carrying the puck through the neutral zone and D2 skates backwards to the high slot.
KEY TEACHING POINTS
Players work on long shot in full stride, closing the gap and communication during a 2 on 1.
