SET UP
Defensemen work in groups of 2. D1 starts at the blueline near boards. D2 has a bunch of pucks in the corner. D3 and D4 set up the same way on the other side of the zone.
DRILL STEPS
D2 starts the drill with a pass to D1. D1 receives the pass and takes a quick shot on net. D2 makes a 2nd pass and D1 receives the pass and skates in along boards and then takes a quick shot on net. D2 makes a 3rd pass to D1 who then receives it and drags the puck along the blue line for a shot from the middle. Once the 3 shots are done, D4 and D3 repeat the process from their side. The drill is repeated until all Defensemen have shot the puck 3 times.
For variation have the Defenseman in the corner make lousy passes to the Defenseman on the blueline to improve puck control skills.
KEY TEACHING POINTS
Players work on puck control, quick release shooting, and hitting the net with each shot.
Goalies work on angles and footwork while stopping shots from the point.
