The Idea
It all started when Kevin went to a home show and saw a TV personality giving demonstrations on stage. His wife was chatting away about finishing their basement when Kevin stopped suddenly. She just kept on walking and he stared into space.
“What?” she said when she realized she was walking by herself.
“You know, I could do this for hockey!” Kevin said excitedly.
“What do mean?”
“A show.”
“What show?”
“About hockey. I would cover all aspects and give people valuable information they could actually use. I would also make it from all the points of view.”
“Whose points of view?”
“Everyone! Coaches, players, scouts, managers, agents, trainers, referees, parents, fans… it would have to be educational and entertaining. The audience would have to feel like they were getting something they could take away and use.
“Sounds good,” his wife mumbled casually, looking at the decorating booths and wondering what kind of design she should choose for cabinets.
Kevin continued, “and it would help the people too by giving them a resource of information. I would talk about on-ice and off-ice situations, I would give tips on tactics and skills, I would talk about nutrition and conditioning and mental preparation and oh… oh you know what? I’d have some sort of round table to discuss the hot topics and I would….”
Kevin went home to capture all of his ideas and he mapped them out on a Bristol board.

The Name
Kevin’s first idea was to name the show, “It’s a’n’ Ice Game” as a play on words.
Being the creative mind that he is, he attempted a few more:

Being the marketing mind that he is, he conducted a survey.

54% preferred The Hockey Source |
- 20% preferred Hockey Extreme
|
18% preferred Hockey! Hockey! Hockey! |
|
He finally decided to name his show The Hockey Source. It was clean, easy-flowing and would represent the source of information for all aspects of hockey. It would be like a one-stop show. |
 |
Kevin had a great idea and a great name. Now he needed a strong, marketable logo to represent his vision. After a few unsatisfactory attempts of his own,

he contacted MMMG to create The Hockey Source logo. |
|
The Character
The show needed a character - one that would be helpful and colorful - something that represented the essence of the show - a character with a catchy name… |
|
The Team
Credibility is quickly realized and Kevin assembles a group of Subject Matter Experts to provide support and expertise for each role in minor hockey.
Knowing that focus is key to performing, Kevin hired sales and marketing expert, Joe Nunziata to help brand this resource of information. After much discussion, thinking and re-thinking, they finally determined that this whole project was about being: |
|
Next, Kevin put a team of people together to help him develop this vision. They talked and laughed and ate Marina’s pizza and also contributed great ideas on how to build a website to support the show, how it needed to look, what other mediums to support this massive library of information and they talked and laughed and ate some more pizza…. |

The Website
Finally, the website started to take shape and the site map was born. It became the guiding doc for the whole design. |

The Pilot
With the website under construction, Kevin meets with MMMG again to transform ideas from thought to moving pictures.
The challenge now was to combine a sharp look, quality production and informative content to create an empowering show for minor hockey.
Shooting began…

The Show
The pilot opened the door to several networks. One network became interested and serious talks began.
In the meantime, Kevin and his team progressed with the production of the full TV show.
